How to create an FTP account in cPanel

An FTP account is used for managing files, you can download and upload files using your FTP account. The FTP account gets automatically created in cPanel when you sign up for a hosting plan.

Username and Password is same for the FTP as of your cPanel
You can create additional FTP accounts to give access to other users so that you can retain your access to cPanel login credentials as you will not have to share it with them.

To create an FTP account:

 Login into your cPanel account

  1. In the 'Files section', click on FTP Accounts.
  2. It will redirect you to the FTP Accounts page
  3. There Enter desired username you would like to use as your FTP login ID.
  4. Enter a password in the Password fields twice, which will be used for authentication of your FTP Account.
  5. You can set the Quota for the FTP Account. It is the maximum amount of data that can be tranfered.
  6. In the Directory Field, cPanel will show an directory path based on the FTP username, but that is normally incorrent. Therefore, it is recommended removing everthing after the ‘public_html/’ and specifying the directory you would like the user to have access
  • If you remove everything from the Directoryfield and type in only a single “/” , then the user will have access to your root directory and all the files and sub folders it contains.

Note: In this step, you can determine the level of access you would like to give to a user. The FTP user will be restricted to the specified directory; However, they will be able to access all files and subfolders inside that folder.

       7. Click Create.
